Deputy CEO and Chief Engineer of PJSC “Rosseti” Evgeny Lyapunov shared his insights on promising areas for cooperation in the power grid complex during the panel session “Energy Partnership between Russia and Africa” at the African Energy Week.
The African Energy Week, held annually in Cape Town, South Africa, is a platform for leaders in the energy industry to discuss and collaborate on ways to strengthen energy cooperation between African nations and international partners. This year, the event focused on the theme of “Investing in African Energy: Driving Growth and Sustainability”.
At the panel session, Lyapunov highlighted the key role of the power grid complex in ensuring stable and sustainable development, not only in Russia but also in Africa. He emphasized the importance of sharing experiences and best practices in the energy sector, and how this can contribute to the overall growth and development of the continent.
One of the key areas of cooperation mentioned by Lyapunov was the modernization and digitalization of the power grid complex. He stressed the need for Africa to adopt advanced technologies and implement smart grid solutions to improve efficiency and reliability of power supply. This would not only benefit the customers, but also help attract investment and create new job opportunities.
Lyapunov also highlighted the potential for renewable energy development in Africa, especially in remote and rural areas. He mentioned the success of Russia in implementing renewable energy projects and expressed the willingness of PJSC “Rosseti” to share their expertise and technologies with African partners.
Furthermore, Lyapunov touched upon the importance of regional cooperation in the energy sector. He highlighted the successful example of the Southern African Power Pool, which has allowed for cross-border energy trading and increased energy security in the region. He encouraged other African nations to follow this example and work together in developing regional power systems.
The panel session also discussed the challenges faced by the energy sector in Africa, such as inadequate infrastructure and lack of investment. Lyapunov emphasized that these challenges can be overcome through collaboration and partnerships between governments, energy companies, and international organizations.
In addition to his participation in the panel session, Lyapunov also held bilateral meetings with representatives from various African countries to discuss potential projects and partnerships in the energy sector. This highlights the commitment of PJSC “Rosseti” to actively engage in the development of the energy sector in Africa.
In conclusion, the panel session “Energy Partnership between Russia and Africa” at the African Energy Week was a valuable platform for discussing and exploring opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector. Lyapunov’s insights and proposals for collaboration demonstrate the strong commitment of Russia and PJSC “Rosseti” to support the sustainable development of the African energy industry, and contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of the continent.
